I liked Kate's web because it was well organized and had a nice collage of her friends. Juan's web was nice because it had many different backgrounds and looked very nice. Finally, I liked Andree's web site because it has a lot of pictures and different colors which make it nice.

Regarding the stumpers, I liked Jaime's, Paul's, and Wayne's. Jaime had a picture of a sports field, probably soccer, and I liked it because that is my favorite sport. Paul's was funny because it says elevators also help the lazy and provided good clues to where the elevator is. Finally, I liked Wayne's because it is very similar to mine but the table is located in a different place on campus, and it tricked me at the beginning.

Comments on Stumpers:
Paul
Jaime
Wayne

Comments on Webs:
Kate
Juan
Andree

Trinity Picture Stumper

Do you know Trinity well enough? From Juan's presentation, I liked the fact that the colors he chose for his text and background made it actually impossible for anyone to read it, and even Juan himself had trouble to read it and make his presentation, therefore giving even a worse PowerPoint presentation. In Paul Hoeg's bad PowerPoint, I thought it was nice how he used many animations including distracting sounds. He also made reference to other important aspects in a presentation like time constrains, and making sure that your technology is working, and that was not mentioned by anyone else. Finally, I also liked Mary's presentation because she was original and made one of the most confusing presentations, even using an illogical order for her steps numbers in the slides. Even though most presentations showed basically the same ideas, I liked these more because they had different information.

Things to do:

Use appropriate colors for text and background (easy to read)

Make your presentation within your time limits

Use images and animations that relate to your presentation

Cite sources for your images

Check your spelling and grammar

Make sure your technology is working

Things not to do:

Do not include too many images or animations (confuses audience)

Do not insert many charts into a same slide

Do not write full paragraphs in your slides and then read them

Do not change size and font of text constantly

Do not use a language that your audience will not understand in your presentation

gvallejo@trinity.edu

http://www.cs.trinity.edu/~gvallejo/bad/How%20to%20do%20a%20Bad%20Power%20Point%20Presentation_files/frame.htm

CS1300 Copyright Issues

Today Copyrights have helped authors protect their material in the Internet to avoid illegal copying and plagiarism. However, there are various ways to use these material without copying or doing plagiarism. If I would want to use an image for a website of my own I would have to consider several things. First of all, by law, I am able to used copyright material for purposes of commentary or criticism without having to cite the author. However, in most of the cases, when you use an image for a publication everyone can access, like the Internet, you have to always give credit to the author. You must have authorization from the author to use its image on your website. On the other hand, if you use a photograph you took from your camera, you don't need to ask for permission from anyone in order to use it. In addition, if you are a student in a class environment, you do not need to ask permission as long as you site the source. I hope this information is useful for your future creation of a web page.

Gustavo Vallejo

CS1300 Web 2.0 Analysis

After reading the "Time's Person of the Year" article I realized that the advancements in communication through Web 2.0, the newly transformation of the World Wide Web, is a success thanks to us. It is important to recognize the geniuses who develop programs such as Facebook, My Space, You Tube, and more that allow a globalized exchange of information, but if it weren't for each one of us who post a video on You Tube or make a profile on Facebook, this "new web" called Web 2.0 would not be of such importance nowadays. However, we should recognize that Web 2.0 has a lot of pros as well as cons. This system can result harmful to us if we don't take it serious and play with it by sharing senseless things that are not a use for anyone. As the article says, "Web 2.0 harnesses the stupidity of crowds as well as its wisdom".

By reading the article "What to do About Web 2.0" by Andrew Keen and Michael Laskoff, we can see how people and businesses have to be very careful when using Web 2.0. This new web contains lots of information that we can use when trying to help our businesses, but not all the information is good or valid. Therefore we should always have a critical analysis of the information we find in order to take advantage of it, because if we take all its tools as granted we may be misguided to conclusions that are not true or useful. Finally, I think Web 2.0 allows everyone to immerse in a global communication system and it is in our hands to use it properly in order for it to be even a greater tool for everyone in the future, or to lose this opportunity by taking them as a joke and trying to harm others through the web.

Gustavo Vallejo

My Previous Experience with MS Word

Microsoft Word is a program which I use very often in my life. However, I have never had an actual class about this program, therefore I only know the traditional tools and gadgets you can use in the program. Most of these things are located on the Home Tab. I also know how to insert different things like pictures, diagrams, word art, etc. I will like to gain more practice in using other features that are located in the Mailing, References, Review, and Page Layout tabs. I am looking forward to managing Word as an expert and improve the quality of my work by knowing how to get the best benefit from this useful program.

Gustavo Vallejo

Meeting Me

Hello everyone! My name is Gustavo Vallejo. I come from Quito, the capital city of Ecuador, in South America. What I like to do the most in my country is go to my little house in the mountains, it is located in the province of Imbabura and it is right beside a lake. I go there to horseback ride, play soccer, ski, or simply enjoy a nice sunset in the mountains. I go there with my family, which is pretty big since I have four sisters, and all of them are older than me.

I came to study in Trinity because of its great reputation and its adequate setting. I will be getting a major in Business Administration and will like to enroll in other campus activities like playing soccer. A good way to recognize me as unique is the fact that I have four older sisters and I also have a burn mark on my right foot due to an accident when I was little.

Regarding to my computer skills, I had computer classes in high school but were very basic. Other than that I have not more of a background with computers, but I am always using them because they are useful to do anything you want, from doing homework to downloading music and visiting facebook.

Thanks for taking the time to read this,

Gustavo Vallejo
